It is like a manager it translates what you tell the computer to do so that the computer understands and can do what you said. An operating system can do a lot of things at a time. For example it can print things for you at the same time as opening a word document. The larger your computer the larger your operating system so the faster you can do things and the more things at a time you can do. The operating systems people mostly use today are, UNIX, Microsoft’s operating system, which became old and was replaced by Ms-dos and Linux. The special thing about Linux is that you can download it from the internet for free. But since Linux is free there are some things that are too hard for it.
